Biggest Metropolitan Areas on the African Continent
Africa is a large continent and it has many large metropolitan areas as well as very small communities. Africa is the second largest and has the second largest population in the world. There are 54 countries inside of Africa, the continent is surrounded by the Meditterean Sea as well as the Suez Canal and the Red Sea. The Indian Ocean lines the coast on the Southeast side and the Atlantic Ocean on the west side. Here are some of the biggest Metropolian Areas in Africa :
Johannesburg: This province has a city population of 3,888,180 people and a density of 2,264 square kilometeres. Johannesburg has a tropical highland climate , the city can have a beautiful dry climate in the afternoon and then thundershowers in the months from October to April. Johannesburg has a beautiful cityscape and it is one of Africa's most modern and prosperous cities in South Africa. Some of the most famous buildings are the Sentech Tower, Hillborw Tower and the Carlton Centre, these are the tallest buildings in the city as well. There are plenty parks and gardens to help beautify this histoic city. There are also residential homes as well, in Alexandra the township that is located in the northwest part of the city has 125,000 people who reside there.
Durban: This is perhaps the largest city in South Africa; Durban is one the busiest container port in all of Africa. It is also a very popular tourist destination. Durban Metropolitan Area or DMA does have a large and very diversified economy. Their economy is based on manufacturing, tourism, transportation as well as a finance and government sectors. Though there has been a slow growth in the amount of jobs that the formal sector has produced in the last 20 years, like any other place in the world, times are tough. Durban has its own sport teams, the Rugby Union Teams, The Natal Sharks and the Sharks. They also host a Cricket Team called the Dolphins. If you plan on visiting Durban there are plenty of ways to get around the city, you have buses, taxis, cars and rickshaws.
Tunis: Tunisia has a very diversified economy, included are agriculture, mining, manufacturing, tourism and oil. This area is about 19,232 kilometers of road and there are 30 airports in Tunisia alone. This country is divided into 24 separates govornates; the biggest is the capital Tunis. This is the largest metropolitan city in the country. There are over 2,412,500 inhabitants there alone. This city is located on the Mediterranean Sea or Gulf or Tunis as well as the Lake of Tunis and the port of La Goulette. Tunis is one of the most historic places that you will find in Africa. To visit this city alone you would need weeks just to see everything they have to offer.
