In the past few years CEOs of major companies have been getting a bad reputation, they have been more known for the amount of money they receive in bonuses every year rather than the work they actually put in. There are some CEOs that have a bad reputation for a reason but there are some really good CEOs out there that work hard, are honest and do set a good example for the company. But what makes a good CEO? Here are 5 criteria of what makes a good CEO:
Strategy: A good CEO worth their salt will have excellent strategic ideas of how to make the business grow. Part of any good business plan is knowing how to execute it. A good CEO will have the skills and the experience to not only plan any strategic moves but knows how to counter attacks from other businesses trying to take them over or shut them down completely. A good CEO knows how to have his/her employees follow them and not be lead by the employees.
Decision Making: All day long CEOs are put in a position to make decisions that could help or hurt the company. There are days where they make some of the best business decisions that they could have hoped for and then there are days when the decision wasn't the right one. A good CEO knows how to bounce back from the bad decisions and makes moves that turns the situation around and puts the company back on track. There will be days when the CEO has a bad day but then again everyone is entitled to them.
Hiring: A good CEO knows that their employees are the heart of the company and without them they would be lost. So when a business is looking for a new employees a CEO will know just what to look for when it comes down to experience as well as qualifications of a potential employee that will help make the company money, A good CEO will also provide the very best training a new employee can ask for, if the employee isn't trained right then it could end up costing the company money.
Excellence: CEOs are leaders in their own right, not only can they execute a good business plan but they can also work through stress and any problems that arise with a level of professionalism. Not everyone can be CEO material, you have to put in that extra mile for the company, work late hours, possibly travel and be away from their families. CEOs have a lot of pressures throughout the day and often take their work home with them. It seems like being a CEO is a 24/7 job in itself.
Results, a good CEO knows how to get results. They understand the inner workings of the business, they know what they are up against and they know how to hire the employees that will help the company get results. A good CEO is the leader of the business and they know how to treat their employees and know when they should be praised or taken to task for doing something wrong. A CEO is the boss and they work hard to help enrich the lives of the company and the employees.
